How do I apply for financial aid?
Start
here.
Will my financial aid cover all costs?
In
most cases, if a student meets eligibility for federal and state
financial aid, he or she will have available funds to cover the costs of
his or her program.
What is the
FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as
the FAFSA) is a form that can be filled out annually by current and
anticipating college/university students to determine their eligibility
for federal student financial aid (including Pell grants, Stafford
loans, PLUS loans, and work-study programs).
What is our federal code?
Point's
code is 001547.
Should I complete the FAFSA?
We encourage all students to complete the FAFSA for eligibility for federal financial aid.
When is the FAFSA available?
The FAFSA is available to students after January 15 each year.
Tax time is FAFSA time!
Is there a FAFSA deadline?
The Financial Aid Office publishes a deadline for FAFSAs annually. This deadline guarantees that all students will be awarded by mid-May if all paperwork is received.
What is the
HOPE Scholarship?
The HOPE Scholarship is Georgia's unique and
nationally recognized program for helping its students succeed. Helping
Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) is an educational program to
reward students who have earned good grades by helping with the expense
of continuing their education after they graduate from high school.
Am I eligible for the HOPE Scholarship?
The
HOPE Scholarship program is available for students who meet the
eligibility requirements. New students should log on to
GACollege411.org to create an account and view HOPE status; the HOPE/Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant applications should be completed on the same website. The Financial Aid Office will check for eligibility for all returning students.
When will my financial aid be disbursed?
An
award letter detailing the total amount of financial aid will be
provided to the student on or before the date of the orientation event
preceding the cohort that he or she intends to join. An exact date for
the disbursement of funds will also be provided during orientation as
part of the student financial services presentation.
Will my financial aid be affected if I drop a
course?
Yes, dropping a course can
have a major effect on a student’s financial aid.
Will my financial aid be affected if I take
extra courses?
Taking additional courses will not have a
negative effect on a student’s financial aid, but doing so will increase
the student’s tuition statement.
What is a refund?
A refund is a monetary credit that
may exist on a student account that is in excess of the total amount
owed; refunds are issued to the student in the form of a check.
When and how will I get my refund?
Refunds
will not be processed on excess financial aid until the funds
are received by the University from each funding source. Refunds can only
be issued if the financial aid posted exceeds the amount of tuition,
fees and other applicable charges. Federal refunds are issued to
students within 14 days of receipt of funds.
Students should
check their
CampusVue Student Portal accounts before calling to ask about a refund
check’s status. When your refund is ready, you will be notified at your
student email address.
Do I
have to reapply for financial aid each year? How do I know when to
reapply?
Financial aid has to be reapplied for each academic
year. The Financial Aid Office will notify you when it is time to
reapply.
Who do I call or
contact if I have questions about my financial aid?
