President's Office

Dean C. Collins is a 1979 graduate of Point University. He held the position of interim president at Point from early 2006 until February 2009, when he was appointed president by the University’s board of trustees. Prior to joining the administration in 2006, Mr. Collins had served as an advisor to the University and its trustees. In previous years, he served as part of the University’s adjunct faculty and as the interim vice president of student development.

During Mr. Collins’ tenure as president, Point has achieved record enrollment, exceeding 1,400 students for the first time in the University’s 75-year history. In 2008, the University’s Access program began, offering degree completion programs for adult students. The program has already exceeded all projected forecasts for enrollment. The University, which was founded in 1937 as Atlanta Christian College, became Point University on July 1, 2011. Point just relocated its traditional, residential campus to West Point, Ga., in June 2012 to accommodate further enrollment growth in both traditional and nontraditional degree programs.

After graduating from Point, Mr. Collins earned a master’s degree in counselor education from Auburn University. He completed additional graduate work in counseling psychology and marriage and family therapy.

In 1979, Mr. Collins founded Auburn Christian Fellowship at Auburn University, a nondenominational campus ministry that continues to thrive today. One of the early campus ministries in the Southeast, ACF provides housing, recreational activities, worship services, counseling, retreats and biblical studies to students.

Mr. Collins founded another 501(c)3 organization, New Directions Counseling Center, in metro Atlanta in 1989. He served as executive director over multiple locations and professionals offering a wide range of behavioral, family and marriage therapy in a Christian environment.

In 1996, Mr. Collins began his tenure as vice president of human resources with CheckFree Corporation. He served there, overseeing human resources functions for 3,000 employees, until founding DC Consulting in 1999. In addition to his presidential responsibilities at Point University, he continues his work with DC Consulting. As a consultant, he works with multiple Fortune 500 companies, providing coaching and guidance in the areas of executive leadership, organizational effectiveness and optimization of business relationships.

Away from work, Mr. Collins has served as a board member with numerous nonprofit organizations, and is often called upon as a guest lecturer and seminar leader in business, educational, church and civic organizations.

Raised in Tampa, Fla., Mr. Collins now resides in Lanett, Ala. -- near the West Point campus -- with his wife, Penny Lane Collins. He has four children, Natalie (who graduated from Point in 2004), Ben, JoAnna, and Sydney. Mr. Collins and his family are currently members of Spring Road Christian Church.
