Newest Group of Adult Students Sets Enrollment Record

Point University’s Access program for adult learners has seen a marked increase this year. Access is a program especially designed for busy adults with evening classes at all of the Point locations- West Point, East Point, Peachtree City and Savannah. Students enrolled in the Access program can earn an associate degree in general studies or bachelor’s degrees in Christian ministries, human relations or organizational leadership. The goal of Point’s Access program is to provide quality courses that integrate faith and learning in a nontraditional format for the adult student.

In the fall of 2011, there were 823 Access students at all locations. A year later, the numbers show an eight percent increase, with 890 adult students enrolled. The most recent Access cohort started on Tuesday, September 17 at the East Point location, with 52 new students.

At the East Point location, which serves the largest population of Access students, Point University is actively involved in several projects to improve its current facilities. Renovations have already begun in the Hathcock Center, where the 200 hallway is being converted into more classroom space. Further renovations will continue at various locations around the East Point location to better accommodate the needs of the University’s Access population.

“The continued increase in enrollment has come even though we have graduated record numbers of Access students over the past two years. The improvements at East Point demonstrate Point University’s commitment to the growing adult student population and to enhancing the learning environment at that campus,” stated Dr. Darryl Harrison, chief academic officer and vice president for adult and professional studies.

Including the Access statistics, total enrollment across all locations for the University has reached an all-time high of 1,488, a 15 percent increase from last year’s enrollment numbers.
