James C. Donovan
Born: Ft. Lewis, Washington, May 31, 1951
Married: Robin H. Donovan, December 21, 1973. Robin is an educator having taught children in the Primary school of Woodward Academy over 14 years.
Children: James P. Donovan and Robert C. Donovan, born August 3, 1976.
Jimmy, a ’95 graduate of Woodward Academy, received his B.S. in Criminal Justice and Psychology from UGA and his Masters in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University. Immediately following the attacks on September 11, 2001, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines, served two tours in Iraq and has achieved the rank of Major. He continues in the Marine reserves. Currently, he is a Special Agent with the counter proliferation task force of H.S.I. (Homeland Security Investigations) Jimmy is married to Izzy and has a three and a half year-old daughter, EJ. They reside in the Washington, D.C. area.
Rob, also a ’95 graduate of WA, is in his 18th year as a Special Agent in the United States Secret Service. As an agent in the New York City field office, he was present during the attacks of 9/11, served courageously on that day and was commended by the President receiving the distinguished “Medal of Valor.” Rob has been a part of details that have provided protection for Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump. Currently Rob is assigned to the Washington field office and is involved in the security of our country. He and his wife, Erica, reside in the D.C. area.
Education: Atlanta Christian College, B.A. & B.Th. in Ministry, 1974; Georgia State University, M.Ed. in Counseling, 1977; Georgia State University, Ph.D. in Leadership and Administration, 1982.
Career: July 1, 2011 to present—Professor of Education, Chair of Education Department, and Professor of Christian Ministry, Point University; 1993 to 2011—Senior Minister, Southwest Christian Church; 1984 to 2011—Atlanta Christian College, Adjunct Professor of Ministries; 1984-1993—President of Atlanta Christian College; 1974-1984—Woodward Academy, Chaplain, Principal of Middle School, Coach, Dorm Supervisor; 1973-1974—various interim preaching positions; 1971-1972—East Point Christian Church, Youth Minister.
Board Service: Christian Campus Fellowship at Ga. Tech, board member—25 years, chair—18 years; Christian Missionary Fellowship board—15 years; Chair 3 years; Seminary of the Nations board—15 years, chair for 15 years; founding member of the Globalscope Steering Committee—12 years of service; Pathway Christian School, 6 years.
