Finish the Race

Our mission at Point is to develop young men and women for Christ-centered service and leadership throughout the world in whatever profession they choose. Our mantra this year is “Many parts…One Body” and previously has been“Our story is not finished yet.”  As I sat thinking on these ideas a sermon heard many years ago came to mind that made the point that all of us are important to the body of Christ as each of our limbs and organs are important to our human body. I was reminded of how important each one of you is to your fellow students, friends, and co-workers and more importantly how collectively we all are so important to the spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus called each of his disciplines personally and individually to capitalize on their particular characteristics to accomplish HIS mission here on Earth. Each of you is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of the father and prepared for the work he has for you. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has a plan for you and that plan includes the exact place and time of service for you to have the most impact in spreading the Gospel.

God does indeed have plans for you; however, those plans have not yet been fully realized. As one continues to walk with the Lord it is quickly realized that “The story is not yet finished.” The Apostle Paul tells us to persevere in the mission that the Lord has given us. Writing in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Paul encourages us to run the full race. Persevere until the race is won and the full mission accomplished.

My prayer is that we will not only be sensitive to the calling that God has placed on each of our lives but, moreover, that God will grant us grace and strength so that we are encouraged enough to step out in faith, to finish the work in making a difference in this world for his glory.
