Unleashed for Truth
Point University’s March Community Chapel aimed to bring to light the misconceptions that every person has about themselves, about others and about God. Christians must shine a light on what is true and what is false to be unleashed for Kingdom impact.
To get students thinking about the difficulty of distinguishing truth from lies, Phil Shomo began the evening with the game, “Two Truths and a Lie.” Following student-led worship, three Point students—Demitri Reeves, Parker Anderson, and Dareyelle Avant—shared their faith story and how they had to overcome faulty assumptions about Christianity in order to be changed by the Gospel.
After the students shared, Point alumni and trustee Marvin Bussey—director of Teens at Work, Inc.—spoke about how students can evaluate their own false opinions against the truth of God. He encouraged students to correct their faulty thinking and reliance on worldly wisdom by spending time in God’s word. Only after we surrender our wrong viewpoints can we truly be unleashed to do the will of God.
“Many times, our misconceptions prevent us from moving forward; that is why it is so important to realize the deception in our own life,” Bussey challenged. “To be unleashed from falsehoods is to be set free to operate with liberty and purpose.”
Students concluded the evening by writing down misconceptions they have about God, Christ and his people and burning them in fire pits outside symbolizing being unleashed to believe the truth.
John 8:31-31, “So Jesus said…’If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
