Our Thoughts on Diversity

At Point University, diversity is a vital part of who we are. We are fortunate to have a campus community that reflects the beauty of God’s kingdom in its diversity of age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, gender and geography. Students of color make up nearly half of our student body, making Point one of the most diverse private, Christian colleges in the United States.

We believe that our campus policies, procedures, communication and programming should reflect our commitment to our diverse and inclusive environment, unified by our commitments to educating students for Christ-centered service and leadership throughout the world.

Point University is deeply committed to continuing the work of Jesus to create a “beloved community,” a community characterized by the welcoming invitation of Christ, care for all, and the common pursuit of abundant life in Jesus. Two vivid images from the gospel help us focus our work: the table of Christ and the flock under the watchful care of the Good Shepherd.

From these two gospel images, and their faithful application by the earliest followers of Jesus, flow a series of commitments that guide our work of building a community founded on and directed toward Jesus. We seek for the Point Community to have a welcome as expansive as the table of Christ, where friends and enemies alike dined, and a call to discipleship so radical that no portion of our lives or identities is left untransformed by the risen Christ.

As Point University seeks to continue the work of cultivating the beloved community, we are restructuring our diversity efforts as part of the Spiritual Formation Office, which is led by Jon Reynolds, director of campus ministry and spiritual formation. More information about a committee to direct these efforts will be shared soon.

If you have questions, observations or concerns, please email diversity@point.edu to contact the director of spiritual formation.
