Spring Commencement

Point University will confer degrees to nearly 200 graduates in May commencement ceremonies. Graduates of West Point and Birmingham locations will cross the stage on Friday, May 13, at 7 p.m. EST at the Church of the Highlands in Auburn, Alabama. Graduates of Lindbergh, Peachtree City, Savannah and the online program will celebrate commencement on Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. EST at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia.

The commencement address at both ceremonies will be given by Norris Blount. Blount grew up in Lubbock, Texas, and attended college at Baylor University on a football scholarship. He is the son of Hall of Fame football player Mel Blount and had a short career in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons. He received a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Baylor and has a master of arts degree in biblical studies from Covington Theological Seminary.

Point UniversityNorris held positions with DuPont, Monsanto, and Onin Staffing before entering full-time ministry with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In 2007, he became the full-time coaches’ chaplain for FCA Fayette County. In the same year, he also founded Excelsior Staffing, a full service staffing firm that services companies throughout the Midsouth, Southeast, Midwest and Southwest United States. He continues to serve as president of Excelsior today. In 2014, Norris took a position as a chaplain for Baylor University athletics working with coaches and student athletes. He and his family are still serving in Waco, and he is currently working on his Ph.D. in Religious Studies, with an emphasis on Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary.
