Point University hosted TEDx event

On September 14, Point University hosted its first TEDx event called TEDxPointUniversity at the New Horizon Theater in West Point, Georgia.

TEDx events are self-organized speaking events designed to create a TED-like experience with live speakers and TED Talks videos. As an entity of TED, any organization must file for a license to host a TEDx event.

After filing for a license and being granted approval, TEDxPointUniversity co-organizers Juan da Costa, former pracademics project manager, and Natalie Brown, current pracademics project manager, sought to find speakers for the event.

Six speakers affiliated with the Point community were chosen to present: Dean Collins, president of Point University; Cam Lanier, chairman and CEO of ITC Holding Company; Harriet Langford, president of The Ray and trustee of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation; Tavaris Taylor, director of church and alumni relations at Point University; Simone Cox, associate professor of counseling and human services at Point University; and Jack Dufour, student at Point University.

“Speaking at TEDxPointUniversity was an unforgettable moment. Being able to return and tell the story of my journey since I have left Point University was something that I had dreamed of and being able to fulfill that dream for the TEDxPointUniversity was beyond a dream come true,” said Tavaris Taylor. “To take it a step further, to be able to speak to groups in particular about the possibilities of their potential was special and dear to me.”

Each of these speakers presented on the theme of growth, capturing the concepts of progress, expansion, improvement and development.

“We were honored to have the opportunity to host TEDxPointUniversity,” said Brown. “We want to thank the community for supporting us in this endeavor and hope to host more TEDx talks in the future, bringing people together to share new perspectives and ideas.”
