Dr. Steve Hooks
We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Dr. Steve Hooks ’69, longtime professor of Old Testament at Point University.
Dr. Hooks had a vision that spanned from the classroom to the uttermost parts of the world. His excellence in teaching the Word, especially the Old Testament, was respected by his students, fellow professors and leaders in the broader Christian community. He created and led Seminary of the Nations to take college-level Christian education to missionaries and mission fields throughout the world. He was a gifted preacher as well. In many ways, Dr. Hooks was the epitome of the Kingdom worker who sought to pass on to others that which was passed on to him.

Dr. Hooks really helped me contextualize the Bible in a tangible way — not only was he knowledgeable, but he was REAL and didn’t shy away from the tough topics, which I would often bring up and question. A man of stature and ethics, he made the words of the Bible come to life. Grateful for the experience of being one of the many students under his tutelage.

Dr. Hooks was one of my favorite professors. I love the way he brought the Old Testament to life. One statement that impacted my life is, “God, not man, is the key to human fulfillment.” Dr. Hooks shared this statement throughout my OT History course; it’s been a phrase that has carried me all these years. FYI, I took his class Fall 1998 :).
