The B.S. in special education develops professional educators equipped to serve in special education settings at the PreK-12 level (preschool through 12th grade).
Upon graduation students will be fully certified teachers for the state of Georgia. Graduates are credentialed to teach in both public and private schools.

Students progress from general education courses and foundational education courses into the Teacher Education Program (TEP), which includes three terms of teacher education courses with field experiences at different levels, plus one term of student teaching experience in a local public school.

Students begin spending time in classrooms at the beginning of their junior year. Most students complete student teaching with Troup County Schools, although some have completed student teaching in a different location.
Graduates of the special education program are qualified to teach preschool through 12th grade in public and private schools.
