The elementary education program develops and trains early childhood educators to teach at the prekindergarten through fifth grade levels (PreK-5), who demonstrate the knowledge, skills, professional dispositions and Christian attitudes associated with being an effective teacher.
Graduates are prepared to teach PreK through fifth grades as certified teachers in public schools.
Plan and implement an effective classroom management system.
Use reflection, inquiry and critical analysis to improve teaching practices and professional behaviors.
You'll use skills, attitudes, Christian behaviors and positive interpersonal relationships associated with being an effective teacher with all students.
Students progress through three semesters of teacher education courses with field experiences and one semester of student-teaching experience in a local public elementary school. Students begin spending time in classrooms at the beginning of their junior year. Student teaching is predominantly completed in Troup County Schools, although students are able to complete student teaching at other locations.
