Home-School Applicant: Students who are currently in their senior year or have already completed high school through a home-school program are eligible to be considered for admission, provided they have met all graduation requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Point University accept students who have been home-schooled and do not have a state-certified diploma or GED?
Yes. Point welcomes home-schooled students who have completed the standard requirements for high school graduation.
What is the suggested high school curriculum for home-schooled students?
Point accepts both prepackaged and self-designed curriculum. We only require that students submit an official transcript showing that they meet the standard state graduation requirements. The requirements for all applicants are as follows:
- English: 4 units
- Mathematics: 3 or 4 units
- Science: 3 or 4 units
- Social Studies: 3 or 4 units
- Foreign Language: 2 or 3 units of the same language
What are the standardized test requirements for home-schooled students?
Standardized Test Options: Point does not require applicants to submit standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) in order to be considered for admission. The grade point average from an accredited high school has been determined to be a more reliable predictor of Point academic performance than SAT or ACT test scores. Applicants may choose to submit official standardized test scores in order to demonstrate academic ability and, in most cases, are encouraged to do so. However, applicants may choose not to submit them, especially when they think the test scores are not an accurate reflection of their academic abilities. After reviewing an applicant’s file, the Admission Committee may ask the person to submit additional materials in order to establish adequate academic preparation or ability, which could include standardized test scores, information regarding the student’s high school education or an equivalent, and/or other objective third-party assessments.
Are home-schooled students eligible for the HOPE Scholarship?
The HOPE Scholarship helps Georgia students pay for college tuition, including those from homeschool programs. If your home-school is accredited, eligibility is based on graduating with at least a 3.0 HOPE GPA (calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission) and completing four rigor credits from the state’s approved list. Transcripts are submitted directly for review, and your HOPE GPA can be viewed in your GAfutures account.
If your home-school is unaccredited, students must qualify with a minimum ACT composite of 24 or an SAT score of 1160 (single sitting) prior to graduation. Students who do not initially qualify may still earn HOPE by completing 30 semester hours of college coursework with a 3.0 GPA. For detailed steps and submission requirements, visit the GAfutures HOPE Scholarship Eligibility page.
Many home-schooled students choose to have their diploma granted by an accredited organization, such as Veritas Classical Schools or The Campus. One benefit of having an accredited high school diploma is the opportunity to be eligible for HOPE immediately upon graduation, without the test score percentile requirement. The Georgia Student Finance Commission recognizes the following accrediting agencies:
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
- Georgia Accrediting Commission
- Georgia Association of Christian Schools
- Georgia Private School Accreditation Council
- Association of Christian Schools International
- Southern Association of Independent Colleges

Dual-Credit Enrollment for Home-School Students
Many home-schooled students choose to get a head start on their college education with Point University’s dual-credit enrollment program.
Our program provides academically outstanding students with the opportunity to take Point courses while finishing high school. It’s a great way to enrich the high school experience – completing your high school diploma while earning credits towards your college degree.
Recommended academic guidelines for entry to the dual-credit enrollment program include:
- High school GPA of 3.0
- Recommended SAT 970 (or ACT 20) (Optional for some juniors and seniors)
- Completed dual-credit enrollment advisement form, as well as regular application for admission
Home-school students in Georgia may also take advantage of the Dual Enrollment funding program, which allows them to earn college credit while still completing high school. To qualify, students must be enrolled in a participating eligible home study program, be approved by their program to participate, and complete the required Student Participation Agreement with a parent or guardian. They must also apply to and be accepted by Point University, maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) once enrolled, and complete all dual enrollment coursework before finishing their home study program.
Important: Under Georgia law, all male students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens, born on or after January 1, 1960, and at least 18 years old must register with the Selective Service to receive Dual Enrollment funding.
