We live in a time where our location is constantly known by others. Because we carry our phones with us always, post pictures relentlessly, and share our thoughts constantly with friends, family, and frankly everyone, it is not that hard to know someone’s location. When we share the Snapchat or Instagram or other social media posts, we intentionally and sometimes accidentally reveal our location.
Those who buy and sell real estate claim that “location, locxation, location” is the primary driver of the value of a piece of property and, likely, its future use. When you lose something of value like your wallet or purse, your keys, or your phone, its location becomes an obsession until you find what you are looking for. As we start 2017 I have a very important question for you to consider: Where are you?
Like I said already, I could probably find your physical proximity by looking at social media, but I am asking a more profound question. In fact, I think it is the first question that God ever asked anyone. Genesis 3:9 says, “But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’”
Do you think there is any chance that God did not know the physical location of Adam when he asked the question? Maybe the question exposes a deeper issue. Maybe the question is more about the essence of life. Where are you in life right now? Where are you in your relationships with others? Where are you in relationship to God?
The question exposes a deeper issue…a question about the essence of life.
Today we are launching our annual 21 days of devotions and prayer. I hope that by taking a few minutes a day to read a short devotional, consider some spiritual truth, and be quiet before God, you might find the answer to this ever so important question. Where are you? If you don’t find that answer, figuring out the next thing in life is much more challenging.
