I often in this life have grown frustrated with myself—rushing to become something or do something that mattered little and left me feeling inadequate. How could I serve or even worship this amazing God with all that was wrong with me? These feelings often stemmed from how I felt about myself more than the love I had for him. I had to realize that, though I am not where I want to be, this life is not about me.
Worshiping and serving God has nothing to do with my level of perfection and everything to do with his holiness. What I wanted to become no longer mattered, and the time frame that I gave myself did not either. What mattered is that God’s will be made manifest in my life in every way possible. Finding life for the believer is about finding Jesus and becoming like him. That will always be a big task, but it is one worth waking up every day and seeking because it is the highest call of the human heart.
In this life, we will never feel as if we measure up, but the reality is we never will. But if we allow that to keep us from trying, the people who could see Jesus through us may never see him. Our hope is never in our abilities but rather through the ability of Jesus Christ who completed his work and now sits on the right hand of his Father. His Holy Spirit dwells in us as believers, guiding us to him. Discovering life is discovering Jesus and the beauty that is my greatest hope in this life. As 1 John 3:2 says, “But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
