For two Point University dual enrollment students, their Skyhawk stories did not stop when they received their high school diploma. After walking across the stage at graduation, they stepped onto campus at the Point University campus in West Point, Georgia, as college students.
Emily Fessler took dual enrollment courses at the Point site location in Savannah, Georgia and plans to double major in psychology and counseling. Marque Johnson is from Savannah, Georgia, as well, but took Point dual enrollment courses through his school, New Hampstead High School, and wants to major in early childhood education. Both Emily and Marque hope to become counselors for children.
While their dual enrollment experiences were different, both feel more prepared to enter the college classroom.
“My favorite part of taking dual enrollment courses was getting the college experience an entire year early,” said Marque. “The classes helped prepare me for what to expect in a real college classroom.”
By taking college courses while still in high school, Point dual enrollment students can reduce their college timeline by a semester or more—saving them time and money
Emily and Marque chose to continue their education at Point after finishing high school because of the opportunity to continue to grow spiritually and to excel academically. They also enjoyed the Point professors they experienced and look forward to learning from them more.
“I feel like I will grow more spiritually at Point, and I will have a better relationship with others and God,” said Emily.
Point’s dual enrollment program continues to grow across the Georgia, reaching more than seven hundred students across Georgia enrolled through high school or Point site locations in West Point, Savannah and Peachtree City.
“A word of advice to other dual enrollment students—be prepared to work,” said Marque. “But just keep in mind that all your hard work will pay off if you just stay with it and don’t give up.”
