Fine Arts Department Announces 2017-18 Season

The Point University Department of Fine Arts announces its 2017-18 season, themed “The Soundtrack of Life.” The season will open on Friday, September 29, with a special performance from Point University’s fine arts faculty presenting selections from their musical careers. The department will welcome home alumni, family, and community friends for its annual reunion concert, “Come Join Us,” during homecoming weekend on October 20. Point’s Signature Voices, Concert Band, and MusicKids will perform “Celebrate the Season: A Point Community Christmas” on December 8-9 at Spring Road Christian Church.

MusicKids, Point’s community children’s ensemble, will also present two programs this year in December and in April. In the spring, the department will present “Music that Inspires,” featuring interesting and inspiring backstories to beloved texts and tunes, and “Instruments Only!” showcasing Point’s growing instrumental program. Fine arts instrumentalists and vocalists will wrap up the season in April, performing “From Stage to Screen,” with favorites from TV, movies, operas, etc.

In addition to these productions, fine arts students will present individual voice and instrumental concerts throughout the year. All concerts are free and open to the public, and most are hosted at the Scott Fine Arts Center Performance Hall.

“The local community has supported the Point University Fine Arts programming enthusiastically during the last five years, and we are happy to invite everyone to share with us in the upcoming season of musical offerings,” says Dr. Byron Cartwright, professor of music, department chair. “We look forward to performing for you!”
