Huxford to Serve as Commencement Speaker

Wye Huxford will serve as speaker for Point University’s commencement ceremony, the University announced this week.

Huxford is a 1973 graduate of the University, then called Atlanta Christian College. He earned a master of divinity from Cincinnati Christian University, where his studies focused on New Testament and theology. He joined the faculty of Point University in 1976, teaching in the areas of New Testament, theology and biblical interpretation. After eight years as a full-time faculty member, he became the preaching minister at First Christian Church, now located in Tyrone, Georgia, where he served for 20 years. During that time, he remained engaged in academic life as an adjunct professor at Point.

In 2006, Huxford returned to Point University in a full-time capacity as a vice president. He served for 13 years as vice president for spiritual formation and dean of the chapel, focused on the spiritual health of the entire University family. He now serves as dean of the College of Biblical Studies and Ministry, overseeing the University’s undergraduate and graduate programs. This spring, Huxford will retire after 50 years of service to the University.

Huxford was married for 48 years to Vicki Kindt Huxford, also a 1973 graduate of the University. She was a vital companion in both ministry and life until her passing in 2021. Huxford has two adult daughters, who are both professors at Point, and two sons-in-law.

“We are honored to have Professor Huxford as this year’s commencement speaker,” said Dr. Stacy Bartlett, president. “For 50 years, he has been deeply committed to Point’s mission and our students, and his final address to the Class of 2026 is a tribute to his remarkable career with Point.”

The ceremony will be held at the Convention and Trade Center in Columbus, Georgia, on Saturday, May 9. Commencement will be live streamed and recorded for those who are unable to be physically present.
