Point University recently recognized four students pursuing careers in vocational ministry with the Philip Anthony Mitchell Scholarship. The students — Memphis Cardone ’29, BethAnn Maddox ’27, Malachi Mitchell ’26 and Olivia Zimbardi ’29 — each received $10,000 from the scholarship.
The Philip Anthony Mitchell scholarship was established to support students pursuing a degree in ministry, theology or related fields. The scholarship honors the legacy of Philip Anthony Mitchell by investing in students who exemplify a heart of service and deep commitment to their faith. Recipients of this scholarship demonstrate their active involvement in ministry, both on their college campus and within local church communities. The scholarship is awarded to students who express a clear intention to use their education to advance the gospel and make a lasting impact for God’s kingdom — both locally and around the world.
“Point University is so thankful for our ministry partnership with 2819 Church,” said Rusty Hassell, vice president of strategic initiatives. “In the past year, we had more than 80 people from 2819 enrolled in our biblical studies certificate, with many of them scheduled to complete this fall. This spring, we were blessed to have Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell from 2819 Church speak at chapel. This fall, Point received a significant donation from 2819 to be applied to scholarships for students pursuing ministry. Now, four outstanding students are the recipients of that gift.”
“Receiving the Philip Anthony Mitchell Scholarship has been such an encouragement to me,” said Cardone. “It not only helps ease the financial burden of pursuing my education, but it also affirms my calling to ministry and motivates me to give my best in both the classroom and in service. I am truly grateful for the support and the opportunity to grow academically and spiritually through this scholarship.”
Another recipient, Maddox, said, “As a junior in college from a one-income household, receiving the Philip Anthony Mitchell Scholarship is an incredible honor. I am a child youth and development major, so this support allows me to focus more deeply on my studies and better prepare for a future of serving God in my best capacity and guiding the next generation.”
Chantel Oney, vice president of advancement, said, “The University has been educating and equipping students for Christ-centered service for 88 years, and we believe that the support of the local church is a valuable and necessary partner in helping us to fulfill the mandate of taking the gospel to the nations.”
Point University has awarded more than $100,000 in donor-based scholarships to students pursuing their calling in ministry for the 2025-26 academic year.
