Point University celebrated the start of the 2024-25 academic year on Wednesday with a convocation service.
At Point, convocation marks the beginning of another academic year, but it is also a time for students, faculty and staff to come together to worship and establish a mindset of unity for the duration of the year.
During convocation, President Dean Collins ’79 shared this year’s spiritual formation theme: “Co-Mission,” based on Matthew 28:19-20. The goal is to remind the Point community that the Point community has been given a mission by God to make disciples and change the world together. The theme will guide chapel messages throughout the year.
President Collins challenged students, faculty and staff with three things as they launch into the year together. First, consider that Jesus knows more and has more for you than you could possibly imagine. Second, move from knowing about Jesus to knowing Jesus. Finally, get serious about the co-mission. “God brought us together for something bigger than just a job. What he brought us here to do is go with him on mission and change the world,” said Collins.
