Point Honors Faculty Member With Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award

Point University announced today that Randall Howell, instructor in science, is the recipient of this year’s Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award.

Established in 1991, the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Awards annually honor an outstanding professor on selected member campuses of the Georgia Independent College Association.

The award recognizes an outstanding faculty member who demonstrates strong academic skills in the classroom and provides leadership and support in the other areas of campus life. The recipients are faculty who assist the institutions in nurturing an academic climate which fosters teaching and who provide leadership to enhance the campus community.

Howell, who lives in Wadley, Alabama, joined the faculty at Point University in 2017 after 25 years of service at Southern Union State Community College. He earned his B.S. from Auburn University and M.Ed. from Auburn University at Montgomery.

“Professor Howell’s care and concern for the students has been evident from his first day at Point,” said Dr. Stephen Waers, chief academic officer. “Whether he’s in the classroom, lab or hallway, Professor Howell goes the extra mile to ensure that students succeed. This award is well-deserved.”

“Professor Howell is a caring and committed faculty member and is liked and well-respected by students and colleagues,” added Dr. Dedra Woolfolk, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We are fortunate to have him in our department as a teacher, mentor and friend. I’m delighted that he is the recipient of this award!”
