Point to Merge Colleges

Point University announced this week that, beginning on July 1, it has merged its College of Education and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences into a new college, the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Greg Moffatt will step away from his role as the dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and continue in his role as professor of psychology at the University. Dr. Susan Ryan, professor of English and education and former dean of the College of Education, will serve as the dean of the new merged college.

“This merger is a great step towards better sustainability for Point University,” said Dr. Jon Ernstberger, chief academic officer. “As Dr. Moffatt returns to the faculty after many years of dedicated service, the college will be in the capable hands of Dr. Ryan, who understands Point, its mission and its students. With this merger, the opportunities for integrated learning, flexible pathways and cross-disciplinary thinking for our students increase significantly.”

“The merger of the College of Education and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences opens the door to innovative interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthens our longstanding partnerships with professional and community organizations,” said Dr. Susan Ryan. “We are hoping to forge new career pathways that blend the strengths of both disciplines. With a shared commitment to academic excellence and real-world impact, our outstanding faculty are poised to lead this exciting new chapter.”

The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences includes the departments of criminal justice, psychology and counseling, social work, child and youth development and teacher education. To learn more about Point University’s academic colleges, please visit point.edu/colleges.
