Point University honor society awarded research grant

Under the leadership of Chapter President Austin Jaime, Point University’s Psi Alpha Psi chapter was awarded a research grant from the TriBeta Research Foundation for a research project proposal that the members submitted.

After brainstorming ideas for research, the team quickly agreed on the topic; the organization will test the antimicrobial properties of CBD oil.

“We will be working with multiple species of bacteria and observing CBD’s effect on them directly and in cooperation with ampicillin, an antibiotic,” Jaime said.

The Math & Science Department of Point University chartered the Psi Alpha Psi chapter of TriBeta Biological Honor Society in November, 2018.

TriBeta is a national honor society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.

There were 14 charter members inducted during the 2018-19 school year, under the guidance of faculty sponsor and fellow member Dr. Dedra Woolfolk.  This fall, 5 new students were inducted during a ceremony held on October 20, 2019.

Results from the research project will be presented at a TriBeta convention in 2020.
