Point University Provides Warmth from the Cold for Local Children

This Christmas, Point University’s Student Life Office gave back to the community through a winter coat drive for elementary school students.

Each spring, the Student Life Office hosts an opportunity for Point University students, faculty and staff to serve the local Greater Valley Area. This year, they collected winter coats for students at Bowen East District Head Start Center. Each student had an ornament on a Christmas tree located on Point’s campus. Faculty, staff and students were encouraged to take an ornament and purchase a new coat for that student.

The Student Life Office collected and delivered 106 coats, which meant that every student received a brand-new coat.

“Our goal was to give back to the community to a deserving population, and Bowen East Head Start was the perfect match for the cause,” said Sandra Tyner, assistant director of student resiliency services. “Some of the students did not have winter jackets, so it was much needed, and the students were excited to receive the coats.”

Service is a core value at Point, and the University is committed to investing in the Greater Valley Area and to giving back to such a supportive community.
