In January, Point University welcomed high school students from churches in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee to its West Point campus for the Pursue conference.
The Pursue conference, in partnership with Christ In Youth (CIY), is a two-day event designed to encourage high schoolers who are considering a career in vocational ministry. Students are invited to campus in order to learn more about campus life, attend a chapel service and hear from current ministry students and faculty and staff.
During the first day of the event, students attended dinner together, followed by a University-wide chapel service at Spring Road Christian Church. During the second day, students attended a morning devotion and spent the day participating in a variety of sessions. These sessions ranged from topics about being called to full-time ministry, to going to college for full-time ministry, to hearing from current Point University students about the biblical studies program.
“Every summer, thousands of high school students make a decision at Christian camps and conferences like CIY to follow God’s calling in their life to pursue ministry as a vocation, yet we continue to see a gap between that decision and number of students who actually graduate from college and go into ministry,” said Rusty Hassell, vice president of strategic initiatives.
“In partnership with CIY and sister institutions, Pursue is an event to encourage those decisions and support them through the next steps in their journey, which for many will include attending a Christian institution like Point University,” said Hassell. “This is one of my favorite events at Point, and I am personally encouraged after hearing the stories of calling and the journey that these students are on in following Christ’s call on their life. I am so encouraged to hear from these future Kingdom leaders!”
