Point University hosted its annual spring Ministry Seminar last week on its West Point campus. The seminar featured Pastor Cam Huxford ’78, alumnus and former pastor of Compassion Christian Church in Savannah, Georgia. The focus of the seminar was church growth versus church health, visioncasting for ministry leaders and reaching our neighbors with the gospel.
“We have an inspiring vision,” said Huxford. “Jesus says it twice, ‘Go into all the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and if you do this I will be with you until the end of the age.’ Then he repeats it in Acts 1:8, ‘You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the world.’ Friends, that is a compelling vision. Every church should have that as their vision.”
“Cam Huxford, as he did in the Fall Seminar, spoke in practical, biblical terms valuable ideas about advancing the kingdom of God through local church ministry,” said Wye Huxford ’73, dean of the College of Biblical Studies and Ministry. “What he taught us can be used in small churches and huge churches and it all revolves around a deep passion to bring people into a living relationship with Christ.”
“Point loves and believes in the local church,” said Dr. Nathan Jones ’07, associate professor of Christian ministry. “Cam Huxford loves and believes in the local church. The spring Ministry Seminar was an expression of our shared belief that when the local church, and its leaders, are united around the Great Commission, communities and countries are transformed. It was encouraging to see attendees from all different backgrounds, of all ages, from near and far, come together to make our local church leadership healthier. I hope that even more church leaders will join us in the fall!”
