Last week, students in the Point University Teacher Education Program hosted local high school students interested in careers in education.
Students in LaGrange High School’s and Chambers County High School’s Teacher As Profession Programs joined Point University teacher education students on campus to learn more about the University’s education program. Point students developed activities to teach the students about Point and its programs.
“I am proud of how Point students demonstrated best practices they learned in their methods courses for engaging learners, differentiating instruction and collaborating with peers,” said Dr. Katura Lesane, associate professor of education. “For example, they used hands-on learning, gamification and a center-based approach to engage the visiting high school students.”
Each year, the University’s Teacher Education Program hosts local high school students as an opportunity for recruitment and to give current students an opportunity to demonstrate autonomy in planning and teaching lessons, while fostering positive relationships with schools in the Greater Valley Area.
