Convocation 2018

Point University held convocation to celebrate the start of the 2018-19 academic year on August 22.

For Point, convocation is about more than simply marking the start of classes, it is a time for students, faculty and staff to come together to worship the Lord and establish a mindset of unity for the duration of the year.

The audience who filled the auditorium of Spring Road Christian Church listened intently as President Dean Collins shared this year’s spiritual formation theme: “Consider Jesus. He was faithful.” The goal of this theme is to inspire Point community members to give thought to the actions and reactions of Jesus and then implement them in daily living.

This year’s theme will guide chapel messages throughout the year, and it gave inspiration for the 10-day devotional series emailed to members of the Point community. The creation of the devotional series by Point affiliates is a beloved tradition upheld each year.

President Collins also shared about the start of a new challenge campaign called #Point37. This campaign, motivated by social media, aims to empower students with ideas and advice on how to make the most effective and impactful use of their first 37 days at Point. These challenges were created during a panel discussion with Point student leaders and campus life ministers.

As students, faculty and staff settle into the start of another year, we trust in the timing of the Lord, and we eagerly look forward to his working within our community.
