Point University celebrated the start of the 2023-24 academic year on Wednesday with a convocation service.
For Point, convocation is about more than simply marking the start of classes; it is a time for students, faculty and staff to come together to worship and establish a mindset of unity for the duration of the year.
During convocation, President Dean Collins ’79 shared this year’s spiritual formation theme: “Faith Beyond,” based on 2 Corinthians 5:7. The goal is to remind the Point community that the faith of the past inspires the faith of the future, which goes beyond the imaginable. The theme will guide chapel messages throughout the year.
President Collins reminded students of the history of Point University. “Somebody had faith, and it moved beyond them into action and led to this moment right here,” he said, explaining that the “beyond” isn’t as far away as we tend to think. Through the story of Zacchaeus in the Gospel of Luke, President Collins illustrated that all it takes is one encounter with Jesus to move beyond into what He has for us.
